“Afghanistan in 2009: A Survey of the Afghan People” – Available October 27
October 21, 2009
At 8:30 a.m. in Kabul (12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time) on Tuesday, October 27, The Asia Foundation will release findings from its most recent public opinion poll of the Afghan people, which covers all 34 of Afghanistan’s provinces. Afghanistan in 2009: A Survey of the Afghan People is the fifth such poll conducted by the Foundation, which released previous polls in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Collectively, the five surveys establish an accurate, long-term barometer of public opinion across Afghanistan to help assess the direction in which the country is moving.
The 2009 survey will be available on October 27 in its entirety at www.asiafoundation.org.
Fieldwork for the survey was conducted through extensive one-on-one interviews between June 17 and July 6, 2009, just prior to the August elections in Afghanistan. The survey is both a look at Afghan perceptions at a specific point in time and a tool to measure shifts in public opinion over the past five years.
Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the 2009 survey was designed, directed and edited by The Asia Foundation’s office in Kabul. All interviews were completed by more than 600 Afghan men and women employed by the Afghan Center for Socio-Economic and Opinion Research (ACSOR) in Kabul.
