The Asia Foundation Supports Educational Opportunities in the Province of Capiz
Roxas City, Capiz, September 16, 2010 — Today, 53,000 new children’s books, high school texts, and college reference materials will be distributed in the province of Capiz. More than 600 public and private schools across the province will benefit from the donation of books, which was made possible through The Asia Foundation’s Books for Asia program in the Philippines.
“The Asia Foundation is proud to work with local leaders and citizens in strengthening the availability of educational materials in their communities and to provide broader opportunities as families try to improve their lives,” said The Asia Foundation’s Dr. Steven Rood. “Through this donation of books, we hope to nurture the Filipino child’s capacity for knowledge and social responsibility to build a peaceful, competent, and healthy society.”
For 56 years, The Asia Foundation has supported local communities to improve education for students in the Philippines. Donations of books for this program are made possible through the contributions of American publishers such as the McGraw-Hill Companies and Pearson.
