Goulolo Community Pleased with The Asia Foundation’s Program Support

October 6, 2010 — An article in Suara Timor-Lorosae features the Support to Local Governance, Elections, Civil Society (GEC) project implemented by The Asia Foundation in Goulolo. The GEC project began two years ago with a series of field visits and training sessions on how to effectively carry out local governance duties. The project has a special significance for the community of Goulolo. It was the first time any NGO or government ministry visited Goulolo, one of the most remote communities of Timor-Leste. Suco councils expressed appreciation for TAF’s support and training in their community, saying that “they view this as a very rare occasion in our lives”.  The training and evaluation visit by The Asia Foundation was described by Suco chiefs as a “useful learning session” that has really helped them cement their understanding of their roles and responsibilities as village leaders so they can confidently fulfill the demands of their offices.
