Intelligence Squared on NPR debates “Is Afghanistan a Lost Cause?”

December 10, 2010 — A broadcast on Intelligence Squared on National Public Radio features a debate about whether or not Afghanistan in a lost cause. Four experts debated on November 10, 2010, including: Matthew Hoh, former State Department official; Nir Rosen, fellow at NYU’s Center on Law and Security; Peter Bergen, journalist and senior fellow at the New American; and Matt Boot, leading military historian and foreign-policy analyst. Matthew Hoh references The Asia Foundation’s Afghanistan in 2010: A Survey of the Afghan People as saying that 80 percent of the population supported talking to the Taliban and negotiating with them.  Listen to the full audio or read a transcript of the debate.
