Al Jazeera English: 76% of Thais Have no Color Affinity

June 14, 2011 — A broadcast on Al Jazeera English’s “101 East” focuses on the upcoming Thailand elections and the results of last year’s political violence. Al Jazeera correspondent Drew Ambrose explains that “to outsiders Thai politics are a black and white affair,” but in actuality, Thai politics are more nuanced. Ambrose cites The Asia Foundation’s 2010 National Survey of the Thai Electorate: Exploring National Consensus and Color Polarization as saying that only 12 percent of Thais feel a strong affinity to the Red or Yellow Shirts. The vast majority of Thais, 76 percent, feel no association to either party. Watch the broadcast: “Thailand’s battle for peace.”
