Radio Australia: Steven Rood Discusses how Energy Projects Could Affect Peace Talks

August 2, 2011 — Reporter Kanaha Sabapathy from Radio Australia’s “Asia Pacific” (online and radio) segment interviews The Asia Foundation’s Steven Rood about whether oil and gas exploration projects in the southern Philippines could complicate government peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Rood explains, “The MILF is open to discussion with government entities about how to move forward on development issues in the mean time; however, they’re saying that their institutions… should be controlling these kinds of interactions rather than the government’s department.” Listen to the broadcast: “Philippine rebels warn government over resource projects.”
