Scholastic Inc. kicks off Storytime in Asia campaign with 100,000 books
August 14, 2012 — We are pleased to announce that Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, is donating 100,000 books to the campaign! A long-time supporter of global literacy, as demonstrated by its Read Every Day, Lead a Better Life campaign, Scholastic’s lead donation of 100,000 books marks its first-ever direct donation to Books for Asia and includes iconic books such as Clifford the Big Red Dog®, The Magic School Bus®, and Goosebumps®.
Pictured here are students from Tegal Jaya State Primary School 2, a rural school in West Java, Indonesia that until recently had few books. The school serves children at Kampong Nagrog, a village of mostly laborers and farmers who earn the equivalent of about $2.50 a day. Books for Asia partners with Dompet Dhuafa, a highly effective Indonesian non-profit organization, to provide books to struggling rural schools such as this one.
