The Asia-Pacific region is rapidly becoming a center of gravity in the global economy and the US is seeking to increase its presence in the region. In 2011 the Obama Administration announced a strategic “pivot to Asia” and in November 2012 the president visited Asia in his first foreign-policy trip after re-election. What policy opportunities and challenges does this rebalancing pose for the United States?
Michael Armacost will discuss these issues as the Obama Administration embarks on its second term.
Michael Armacost, Shorenstein Distinguished Fellow, Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, Stanford University
