Event: Thursday, July 10, 2014, Washington, DC
2:00 – 3:30 pm
Embassy of Australia, 1601 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC
The Asia Foundation, in partnership with the Embassy of Australia, is pleased to invite you to the U.S. book launch of Room for Maneuver: Social Sector Policy Reform in the Philippines. Citing recent efforts to effect social and economic policy change in the Philippines as models, Room for Maneuver identifies best practices for social reform practitioners across the developing Asia-Pacific region. Reflecting on both successful and continuing efforts to enact legislation over the past 13 years, the volume presents 11 lessons that suggest effective advocacy and reform strategies.
Jaime Faustino, Program Director for Economic Reform and Development Entrepreneurship in The Asia Foundation’s Manila office and one of the book’s editors, will present research findings. Mr. Faustino has managed the Foundation’s Philippine economic development program since 2006. Mr. Faustino co-edited Built on Dreams, Grounded in Reality: Economic Policy Reform in the Philippines, which was published in 2011. He has earned an M.A. in political science at University of the Philippines and an A.B. in history at Duke University.
Gerald F. Hyman, Senior Adviser and President of the Hills Program on Governance at CSIS, will moderate the discussion. Dr. Hyman provides assistance to the Hills-affiliated network of centers in Asia, Latin America, and Africa, manages the Hills Program in the United States, and conducts his own research on a variety of topics, especially democracy and governance. He holds a B.A. in philosophy and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
RSVP are required for this event. Please RSVP by Monday, July 7 to Ms. Ellie Matthews at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202-292-5002.
