Alexander Tarnoff
Director, Field Operations (Southeast Asia)
Expertise: Civil society and the NGO sector; social issues in Southeast Asia: health, education and microfinance; refugee sector; strategic planning; organizational development; personnel and program management; Burma; Thailand; Vietnam.
Alexander Tarnoff joined The Asia Foundation in November 2005 as the Assistant Director for Field Operations in San Francisco. Since January 2007, Mr. Tarnoff has been serving as the Director of Field Operations and is responsible for ensuring and supporting effective management of country offices and operations in Southeast Asia in accordance with the Foundation's mission, policies, budget and approved annual and strategic plans.
Mr. Tarnoff has 15 years of experience in the international development sector and lived in Asia for over 10 years. Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Tarnoff served with Save the Children as the deputy regional director for Asia, country representative in Burma, and deputy country representative in Vietnam. Mr. Tarnoff has also worked for numerous non-governmental organizations in the refugee, social, and economic development fields where he served as a country representative in Haiti, Russia, and Vietnam.
Education: B.A. in international business from James Madison University; M.B.A. in international management from Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management.
