Jon Summers retired as The Asia Foundation's Representative-at-Large after 31 years of service in July 2010.
Jon Summers was The Asia Foundation's regional Representative-at-Large. Dr. Summers joined the Foundation in 1979, serving as country representative for Malaysia and Singapore, and conducting preparatory work for Foundation programming in Brunei. He then served as the director of the Foundation's Asian-American Exchange program in San Francisco. He subsequently served as country representative for Bangladesh and Nepal from 1987 to 1991, country representative in Indonesia from 1991 to 1996, country representative in Cambodia from 1996 to 2002, country representative in Afghanistan from 2002 to 2007, and most recently, country representative in Pakistan from 2007-2009. Prior to joining the Foundation, he was executive director of the Afghan-American Educational Commission, responsible for administering the Fulbright program in Afghanistan, and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan, teaching English at Kabul University.
Education: B.A. from Luther College, Iowa; M.A. from Texas Tech University; and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
