As program director for the OFDA-funded Pacific Disaster Risk Management Program for The Asia Foundation, Ms. Hawley provides technical direction, training, and administrative guidance to 13 Pacific Island countries for the design, development, adaptation, and implementation of disaster risk management training courses at both regional and national levels. The program has targeted capacity development in countries to assist the reduction of negative impact of disasters on the fragile economies and development within the Pacific Island countries. Working in the vast, hazard-prone Pacific region, covering countries from Melanesia to Polynesia to Micronesia requires overall technical supervision in every aspect of training and human resources development.
Ms. Kathryn E. Hawley has extensive experience in all aspects of disaster risk management training program implementation and administration based on more than 30 years of work in the Pacific. Since 1995, she has been directly involved with the implementation of disaster-risk-management training for the Pacific region. From 1986 to 1994, she was a U.S.-personal services contractor (US-PSC) to the USAID/Regional Development Office/South Pacific in the fields of training and executive administration. During her time as training advisor she implemented a multi-year, multi-million dollar Development Support Training project for USAID.
