Kirsten Bishop left The Asia Foundation in October, 2013.

Kirsten Bishop brings over ten years of experience working on law and justice development programming to her role as The Asia Foundation's Director, Law and Justice Programs.

Before joining the Foundation, she served as acting assistant director general of the Governance and Social Development Branch in the former Australian Agency for International Development (now Australian Aid), Canberra. Prior to that, Ms. Bishop was Australian Aid's law and justice adviser/director, providing strategic, policy and program advice to the Australian Government and development partners across the Asia-Pacific region, including Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, and a range of Pacific small island states, including Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Samoa.

Ms. Bishop also spent close to four years (2003-2006) based in Port Moresby as manager of Australian Aid's $30 million a year Law and Justice Program to Papua New Guinea. In this role she was instrumental in developing and managing a substantial conceptual and operational shift from project-based assistance to a sector-wide program approach in what was a highly dynamic operational environment.

Before joining Australian Aid, Ms. Bishop worked in legal roles within both the public and private sectors, including as a researcher and lawyer.

Education: Ms. Bishop holds a Master of Laws from McGill University, Montreal, is qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Australia, and holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne.
