Kourtnii S. Brown serves as the Program Officer at The Asia Foundation's newly expanded environment programs, supporting the development of proposals and project design, program strategy, donor scoping, annual plans, communications (including blog articles, program videos, brochure and briefing documents), and research on strategic issue areas. She also assists in coordinating the theme's private fundraising strategy and increasing the visibility of The Foundation's environment work in the San Francisco Bay area.
Prior to serving as the Program Officer for environment programs, Ms. Brown was as a Junior Associate with the Women's Empowerment Program in the Foundation's Washington, D.C. office where she played the lead for conducting research on women and environment programs, increasing the Foundation's visibility in the D.C. area, as well as planning the first Annual Lotus Circle Awards luncheon for women's empowerment in New York City.
Before joining the Foundation, Ms. Brown worked as a Technical Analyst and an Academic Counselor with American University; a Program Consultant with Social Development and Volunteer Service in Kathmandu, Nepal; an Advocacy Intern with CONTACT magazine in India; a Disaster Response and Humanitarian Relief Intern with InterAction; and a Southeast Asia Program Intern with the Asia Pacific Center for Justice and Peace. She has lived and studied language in Indonesia and Nepal.
Education: Ms. Brown received a Master of Arts degree in International Politics (concentration on International Human Rights) from The School for International Service at American University in Washington, D.C. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs (concentration on Southeast Asian Comparative Politics) from The Elliot School of International Affairs at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Ms. Brown has also attended George Mason University's Summer Institute on International Humanitarian Action in Geneva, Switzerland, and The School for International Training's cultural emersion program in Bali, Indonesia.
