Srabani Roy is the former director of The Asia Foundation's environment program area. As the director, Ms. Roy directed and managed the Foundation's environment programs and is responsible for program development, fundraising and monitoring, as well as donor relations related to all environmental programs and initiatives across the Foundation. She collaborated with staff across the Foundation's offices as well as our partners in Asia, to develop innovative environmental programs that support Asian initiatives to ensure the sustainability of the natural environment and resources as fundamental to Asia's development.
Prior to becoming the director, environment programs, Ms. Roy served as the associate director of programs. Ms. Roy oversaw the Foundation's Annual Planning and Budgeting process for country offices, U.S.-based program units, and themes, including: design of program plan submissions; communication with field offices, U.S.-based units and themes; coordination of review meetings; analysis, review, and editing of Annual Plans; and preparation of Annual Plan and Budget document for the Board of Trustees. Ms. Roy collaborated with senior programs and theme staff for the annual strategic planning process for the Foundation's country offices, U.S.-based program and thematic units. A significant part of her work also involved preparation of reports for the board of trustees as well as coordination and development of strategies for the Foundation's engagement with non-U.S. government bilateral and multilateral donors.
Before joining the Foundation, Ms. Roy worked as the information services program coordinator at the Bank Information Center (BIC) in Washington, D.C. BIC monitors and influences the World Bank and other international financial institutions (IFIs) to promote social and economic justice and ecological sustainability in all of their programs and projects. Ms. Roy managed all of the external communications at BIC, including media relations and website content and development.
Prior to working with BIC, Ms. Roy worked for three years as the programme and project development specialist for the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) based in Kathmandu, Nepal. There she worked with program staff to develop sustainable, pro-poor programs and policies in community-based natural resources management, equity and governance, enterprise development, and information and knowledge management initiatives across the Hindu Kush-Himalayas. Before moving to Nepal in 2003, Ms. Roy had worked as an environmental analyst and project manager with Abt Associates Inc., in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for seven years. At Abt, Ms. Roy managed large-scale environmental policy projects for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
