J. Ballard Atherton, founding member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, was an accomplished electrical engineer, President of Hawaiian Telephone Company, and part owner of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Mr. Atherton previously served as director of the Hawaiian Electric Company, the Bank of Hawaii and the Hilo Tribune-Herald. Mr. Atherton is a former president of the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Princeton University and the grandson of YMCA founder, Joseph Ballard Atherton.
