Former Senior Deputy Country Representative, Philippines, and Regional Advisor, Asia

Ky Johnson left the Foundation in 2017.

Ky D. Johnson possesses twenty years of experience providing leadership, project management, and technical expertise to international development efforts.

As The Asia Foundation’s Senior Deputy Country Representative for the Philippines, he oversaw programs in good governance, economic reform, rule of law, conflict management, and electoral reform. He was also the point person on the Foundation’s country-level partnership with the Australian Government. Together with the Country Representative, Ky managed all aspects of the Foundation’s work in the Philippines, including programs, field office administration, resource development, and public relations for the 80-person country office.

Ky concurrently served as the Regional Advisor for The Asia Foundation’s 18 country offices. In this role he promoted management tools and models of efficiency; trained country office staff on institutional policies; and mentored and coached senior management of country offices. He also undertook short-term leadership roles in various country offices throughout Asia.

Prior to joining the Foundation, he was a Senior Associate at an international consulting firm where he managed a number of activities focused on improving macroeconomic policy and building the capacity of civil society organizations. He also served as deputy director of a multi-year effort to quantitatively and qualitatively examine the impact of microenterprise interventions.

Prior to that, he held long-term positions with international non-governmental organizations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East working with political refugees.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Northwestern University; master’s degree in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
