The Timor-Leste Legal Education Project, in partnership with The Asia Foundation and Stanford Law School, just launched a brand-new website that provides accessible, legal educational textbooks to help build knowledge in Timorese universities, government institutions, and NGOs. Recently, the project developed the first-ever legal textbooks based on Timorese laws, and are available on the new website in three languages: English, Portuguese, and Tetum.
The country remains in dire need of infrastructure development, and health and education have suffered under Portuguese colonial rule and then Indonesian occupation, and from the civil strife in the years since the 1999 referendum on independence from Indonesia.
