Violence against women have many forms in our society. Violance based on witch allegation is one the worst forms of violence in Nepal. PPR Nepal has documented more than 20 cases of severe violence against women in the name of witch allegation and we are providing free legal support to the victims in 10 cases in various district. PPR Nepal has prepared a documentary named SACHETANA to raise awareness against the witch craft related violence in Nepal in 2012. We have plan to screen this documentary as many place as we can in coming years. We screened the documentary in Kathmandu and Makwanpur district and stakeholders found it very useful tool to raise awareness.

LESTS JOIN HANDS TO FIGHT AGAINST THIS EVIL EXISTED IN OUR SOCIETY.

I have been working in Nepal on anti-trafficking and human rights education and am a 30+ year police executive and women's rights advocate. This article is very good to describe the current state of affairs in Nepal regarding gender violence. However, there is a critical component that is not being emphasized and that is prevention. Once a woman has been burned or her eyes gouged out, it is too late. Yes victim services and followup with prosecution is important too. But once a woman is victimized, her life is forever changed, and many are never able to resume a normal life due to the severity of the trauma. What is needed here is a nationwide initiative with greater emphasis, funding, and leadership of programs that have been demonstrated through outcome evaluation to effectively shift thinking, change behavior, and educate, with the result of stopping violence. Look to programs that have worked in other countries, such as Chinese foot binding, which was ended in a short 20 years through education.
