Phnom Penh and San Francisco, January 21, 2008 — The Asia Foundation announced today the appointment of Nicole Sayres as Deputy Country Representative in Cambodia. With firsthand knowledge of Cambodia’s political and social landscape as well as extensive experience in program development and management, Ms. Sayres is very well-prepared to help lead the Foundation’s Cambodia programs and their efforts to improve economic reform and civil society development and combat trafficking in persons. She will work under the direction of Country Representative Roderick Brazier, who has led the Foundation’s Cambodia office since 2006.
Since May 2006, Ms. Sayres has been The Asia Foundation’s Assistant Director in Washington, D.C. In that capacity, she has contributed to numerous country programs, and has been instrumental in developing relations between the Foundation and its donors and partners.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Sayres worked at USAID, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Congressional Research Service, and Community and Family Services International in the Philippines. A former Presidential Management Fellow in Washington, D.C., she has a Masters degree in international affairs from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she wrote her master’s thesis on the Cambodian peace process.
