On Thursday, March 24, 2011, Give2Asia is cosponsoring a luncheon hosted by the Asia Society highlighting the situation on the ground in Japan and the evolving needs of survivors on the ground. Areas of focus include the ongoing nuclear crisis, Japan’s political leadership, implications for Asia and the US, as well as relief efforts the public and international philanthropic community can partake in.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Asia Society/Give2Asia relief fund.
Joonhong Ahn is Professor of Nuclear Engineering at UC Berkeley. Born and raised in Japan, Professor Ahn is one of the world’s leading authorities on nuclear power, the nuclear power system in Japan, and radioactive waste disposal. He taught at the University of Tokyo before joining the Berkeley faculty.
Dr. Steven K. Vogel is Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He specializes in the political economy of advanced industrialized nations, especially Japan. He is the author, most recently, of Japan Remodeled: How Government and Industry Are Reforming Japanese Capitalism.
Chuji Ando (Q&A session only) is a Colonel in Japan’s Self Defense Forces and is a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution. He is currently researching security issues in Northeast Asia, including Japan’s relationship with a rising China. His operational tours include flying F-4EJ fighter aircraft and commanding an F-4 squadron at Misawa Air Base, Japan. He has also conducted joint/bilateral operations with US forces.
