Dhaka, March 8, 2011 — The Asia Foundation’s Books for Asia program in Bangladesh celebrates the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day by distributing 4,500 books across a wide variety of disciplines, such as English, business, management, and computer science, to 45 women’s colleges from all over the country. The mission of this event is to advance girls’ education and close the gender gap in education through access to information and knowledge. The Books for Asia program in Bangladesh aims to reach every girls’ school and college in the country.
The Managing Director of Pubali Bank Ltd and the President of Rotary Club of Dhaka were special guests for the occasion. The Asia Foundation’s Bangladesh Country Representative Mr. Hasan Mazumdar, Senior Program Director Mr. Shameem Siddiqi, and Bangladesh Books for Asia Coordinator Ms. Sukla Dey also attended the event along with representatives of the recipient colleges.

The Asia Foundation also acknowledges John Wiley & Sons, Pearson, Lynne Rienner, W.W. Norton & Company, and other American publishers for their generous donations of brand-new books.
