Island Press and The Asia Foundation’s Books for Asia Partner to Improve Environmental Education in Asia

San Francisco, April 22, 2011 — On this Earth Day, The Asia Foundation would like to thank Island Press, a leading publisher of environmental education and resource management information, for donating over 180,000 books over the last decade to improve environmental education and practices in Asia.  This year alone Books for Asia is delivering 34,000 brand new books donated by Island Press to more than 65 organizations and libraries in seven countries.

“Our partnership with Books for Asia enables us to contribute valuable publications to decision makers, advocacy organizations, and students throughout Asia where the impact of urban migration, air and water pollution, and deforestation and desertification are serious concerns,” says Ken Hartzell, Chief Financial Officer of Island Press.

Recipients of the book donations range from non-governmental organizations, such as Save Cambodia Wildlife and Haburas Foundation in Timor-Leste to government agencies, such as the Lao Water Resource Development Administration, Vietnam Center for Environment Monitoring, and Mongolian Ministry of Nature.
