Reuters/New York Times cites The Asia Foundation’s Thailand Southern Survey

June 23, 2011 — A Reuters/The New York Times article examines the ongoing conflict and issue of greater autonomy in Thailand’s southern provinces. The piece highlights three references to The Asia Foundation’s Democracy and Conflict in Southern Thailand: A Survey of the Thai Electorate in Yala, Narathiwas, and Pattani including the issue of decentralization, in which “51% of those surveyed…opposed folding the provinces into a single elected government” and perceptions of the conflict, with “more people fear[ing] the insurgents than the military.” Read the full article: “Analysis: A debate over autonomy in Thailand’s restive south.”
