Dili, April 6, 2012 — The Asia Foundation Representative in Timor-Leste, Mr. Silas Everett, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste, Dr. Zacarias da Costa Albano, officially launched the introduction training for 50 newly recruited official cadets of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Timor-Leste. The launch took place on March 29, 2012 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Dili, Timor-Leste.
In his remarks, H.E Minister Zacarias stated that the introduction course provides the newly admitted cadets with basic knowledge of working in the Ministry. Trainees interested in pursuing a diplomatic career must successfully complete another course followed by a probationary period.
Silas Everett said that the training is a component of support provided by The Asia Foundation’s project on strengthening Ministry of Foreign Affairs Capacity. “As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the flag bearer of Timor-Leste’s diplomacy and in its regional and international relations, this training will provide basic skills and knowledge for Timor-Leste diplomats to make Timor-Leste’s presence in the world a significant value.”
In addition to providing technical support for the establishment of diplomatic training curriculum, this project also supports the Ministry in conducting foreign policy research and providing recommendations to improve the Ministry’s financial system. In the coming months, the Foundation will support the Ministry with a librarian and archivist to assist in developing its library and archive system. This project is funded by bureau of Democracy, Rights and Labor (DRL) of the State Department of the United States of America.
