San Francisco, July 30, 2013 — The Asia Foundation, a nonprofit international development organization committed to improving lives across a dynamic and developing Asia, announces the election of The Honorable Howard L. Berman and William H. Neukom to its Board of Trustees.

We are honored by their commitment to support the Foundation’s work to strengthen democratic institutions, promote the rule of law, and expand economic opportunities across Asia,” said Asia Foundation President David D. Arnold.
Mr. Berman is with the law firm of Covington & Burling. Mr. Berman served as U.S. Congressman of California’s 28th Congressional District for 30 years, from 1983 to 2013. He served as both Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Asia Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee at various times. Mr. Berman was a leading voice on immigration and foreign policy in the House, and was the force behind some of the most important foreign affairs legislation over the past decade. The Almanac of American Politics described Howard Berman as “one of the most creative members of the House and one of the most clear-sighted operators in American politics.”
Mr. Neukom is the president and chief executive officer of the World Justice Project. Previously, Mr. Neukom served as the Chief Executive Officer and managing general partner of the San Francisco Baseball Associates. Former general counsel of Microsoft and president of the American Bar Association, Mr. Neukom has also served on many organizations, including the Dean’s Council at Stanford Law School, and the Board of the Pacific Counsel on International Policy.
