San Francisco, May 2, 2014 — Today in San Francisco, The Asia Foundation and The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) hosted a private roundtable discussion on “Myanmar 2014: Domestic Reforms and International Engagement.” The program provided insights into the complex reform processes now taking place in Myanmar and Myanmar’s increasing regional and international engagement in Southeast Asia. The discussion centered around NBR’s special report “Myanmar’s Growing Regional Role,” which features the international implications of Myanmar’s current reform progress.
In Myanmar, The Asia Foundation works with partners in government, the private sector, and civil society to build the country’s capacity for regional integration, strengthen the core institutions and processes of democratic governance, and support increased access to information. The Foundation has a long history of work in Myanmar, dating back to the 1950s. Since 2007, the Foundation has donated more than 140,000 books valued at $3.2 million.
