Former Country Representative, Indonesia

Sandra Hamid formerly served as The Asia Foundation’s country representative in Indonesia. Sandra is a cultural anthropologist and development specialist with strong interests in political participation, civil society, religious freedom, and pluralism. She is a three-time winner of The Asia Foundation’s Presidential Award for Exceptional Performance; a fellow for the Center for Indonesian Law and Islam and Society at the University of Melbourne; a Draper Hills Summer Fellow on Democracy and Development at Stanford University. She studied at Universitas Indonesia and later received a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where later she received her doctorate in anthropology.
