Fazel Rabi Wardak joined The Asia Foundation in 2004. Currently, Mr. Wardak is the Foundation’s Director for Strategic Programs in the Afghanistan office. Previously, Mr. Wardak has held positions as Director of Governance, Chief of Party of the Change Management program for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Live Stock – (MAIL) and Deputy Chief of Party for the same program.
From 2009-2010, Mr. Wardak worked on the Performance Based Governance Fund (PBGF) as Deputy Chief of Party. He also managed Foundation support from various donors to the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) which was established in 2007 to provide a single political management body for sub-national government in Afghanistan.
Mr. Wardak worked closely with several Afghan non-governmental organizations to strengthen their capacity in promoting awareness of and interest in democratic political processes. Mr. Wardak has participated in many international conferences, seminars and workshops as facilitator and he also participated in various Asia Foundation staff development opportunities including leading a study tour with group of Afghan elections official to Bangladesh, Facilitating a group of high ranking officials from the three pillars of Afghan government to India and a guiding a large delegation of high level officials from several Afghan government ministries to Malaysia. In 2004 he was engaged through the Foundation to assist in setting up and providing critical administrative support for the Media Commission during the Afghan presidential election in 2004. He worked as an Operations Manager for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), and then was promoted to the position of Operations Director for IWPR. During his work with IWPR he gained good experience in media and journalism. Mr. Wardak can fluently speak Pashto, Dari, English, and Urdu.
Education: Mr. Fazel Rabi Wardak graduated from the Engineering Faculty of Kabul University, and received his EMBA from Preston University in Peshawar, Pakistan.
