Keith Shawe is Director of Research and Surveys at The Asia Foundation, Afghanistan. He has had primary responsibility for the design, planning and implementation of the Foundation’s 2013 Survey of the Afghan People. From June 2010 to December 2011, Dr. Shawe also served as Team Leader for The Asia Foundation’s Change Management Project with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock. He combines a strong technical background in natural resource management and extensive experience in environmental governance, institutional reform, policy development and capacity building in conflict/post-conflict conditions with an in-depth knowledge of quantitative research and data analysis.
Dr. Shawe has 22 years of professional experience in 23 countries. His work in Afghanistan extends back to 2007 and covers a variety of assignments as policy advisor, biodiversity consultant and specialist with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the United Nations Environment Program and Coffey International Development.
He also has served in Namibia, Macedonia, Greece and Albania as a project coordinator, consultant and specialist for the UNDP and NATO, among other international organizations.
Education: Dr. Shawe received his PhD. in Plant Biosystematics from Birbeck College,University of London, his MSc. In Plant Taxonomy from Reading University and his B.Sc. in Botany from Kings College London
