Raymond B. Allen, founding member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees (1954-1959), led an impressive career as a medical school administrator and university president. Dr. Allen held leadership roles at prestigious learning institutions and served as director of graduate studies at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons; associate director of New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital; dean of the Wayne State University College of Medicine in Detroit; executive dean of the Chicago Colleges of the University of Illinois and its College of Medicine; president of University of Washington (UW), director of the U.S. Psychological Strategy Board; and chancellor of the University of California at Los Angeles.

He later served as Indonesian director for the U.S. International Cooperation Administration and for the World Health Organization in Washington, DC. Dr. Allen was educated at the University of Minnesota, earning a bachelor’s degree and medical doctor degree and winning a Mayo Fellowship, with which he pursued a Ph.D.
