Asia Foundation Partners with Women’s International Group to Launch Award for Cambodian Women

Phnom Penh, November 12, 2010 — The Women’s International Group of Cambodia (WIG) announced Cambodia’s first independent awards for women leaders in community work, the Indradevi Hope Awards, today. The Asia Foundation is working with WIG to launch this new initiative that is designed to bring recognition to Cambodian women who have worked selflessly to contribute to community and economic development. The award aims to spotlight the work of “unsung heroines”, particularly those working with disadvantaged groups in the fields of health, education, and the empowerment of women.

The Indradevi Hope Awards will be presented at an Award Ceremony and Gala Dinner event on March 12, 2011 at the InterContinental Phnom Penh hotel. In addition to a plaque, specially designed by Artisans d’Angkor, and a certificate, winners will be awarded USD $1,500 in support of their respective projects. Three exceptional Cambodian women will be recognized through three awards: the Indradevi Hope Award for Dedication, the Indradevi Hope Award for Leadership, and the Indradevi Hope Award for Young Achiever.

According to Gavin Tritt, The Asia Foundation’s Cambodia Representative, the Foundation is pleased to work with WIG in promoting the Indradevi Hope Award. “These awards will recognize the notable achievements of Cambodian women, and in doing so they can also inspire the next generation of young women who will shape the country’s future.”
