Deep South Thai Residents Optimistic About the Direction of Thailand

December 16, 2010 — An article in The Nation (Thailand) focuses on Thai residents in the violence-plagued southernmost provinces becoming more optimistic about the direction of the country, according to The Asia Foundation’s Democracy and Conflict in Southern Thailand: A Survey of the Thai Electorate in Yala, Narathiwas, and Pattani. According to the survey of 750 residents in the restive region, at least 46 percent said they believed the country was moving in the right direction, compared to 31 percent last year.
