The Asia Foundation and the John L. Thornton China Center will host a lecture by Cheng Siwei on China’s Economic Policy Objectives for the Next Five Years. The talk will feature a close look at China’s efforts to develop a green economy. Following the lecture Dr. Barry Naughton, Professor of Chinese Economy and So Kwanlok Chair of Chinese International Affairs at the University of California, San Diego, will present his comments, focusing on China’s broader economic policy objectives and the 12th five year plan.
Speaker: Cheng Siwei is a renowned Chinese economist and former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. His current positions include Chairman of China’s International Finance Forum as well as Chairman of the China Advisory Council at the World Economic Forum. He played an important role in the economic transformations that have occurred within China over the last 20 years and is an authority on several topics regarding China’s current economy and its future direction. He is visiting the United States as a Chang-Lin Tien Distinguished Visiting Fellow of The Asia Foundation, an award established as a tribute to the late Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley.
