The Asia Foundation Announces Appointment of Dinesha deSilva Wikramanayake as Country Representative in Sri Lanka

San Francisco and Colombo, November 29, 2012 — The Asia Foundation announces the appointment of Dinesha de Silva Wikramanayake as Country Representative in Sri Lanka.  A Foundation veteran and Sri Lanka specialist, Ms. de Silva Wikramanayake brings two decades of experience in the field of international development – with special interest and experience in economic governance, rule of law, access to justice, and conflict resolution – to her position as country representative in Sri Lanka.

Since joining the Foundation in 1991, Ms. de Silva Wikramanayake has served in many capacities, most recently as team leader of the Foundation’s Local Economic Governance Program in Sri Lanka (2010-2012). Prior to that, she held the role of assistant director in the Foundation’s Washington, D.C. office (2008-2010) and is a former deputy country representative in Sri Lanka.

From 1995 to 1997, Ms. de Silva Wikramanayake served as program director of the Foundation’s USAID-funded Citizen Participation (CIPART) project in Sri Lanka. She also previously served with the Foundation as a program officer for Sri Lanka and the Maldives from 1991 to 1992, focusing on English-language education, women’s empowerment, media development, and economic liberalization.

Outside of the Foundation, Ms. de Silva Wikramanayake was a project management specialist for USAID, Colombo, in the Office of Private Sector Development, managing and subsequently redesigning a Technology Initiative for the Private Sector (TIPS) project, which provided demand-driven assistance to the private sector to access new technologies, improve marketing efforts, and develop linkages with global technology interests. Prior to that, she held positions as an economist with the Environmental Foundation, Ltd. and with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Ms. de Silva Wikramanayake holds a master’s degree in Economics from Colombia University and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Georgetown University.
