San Francisco, April 26, 2013 — On April 24, The Asia Foundation hosted award-winning photojournalist and BBC World Service reporter Aref Yaqubi at its San Francisco headquarters, where he presented a special collection of his photography from Afghanistan: “Historic Ghazni, Capital of Islamic Culture for 2013 and Aspects of Social Progress in Afghanistan.” The photos captured the essence of Ghazni’s challenges and hopes.
Mr. Yaqubi presented photos of Afghanistan to an intimate gathering of Asia Foundation colleagues and distinguished guests, including Humaira Ghilzai, founder and Executive Director of The Ghilzai Group, which focuses on social development in Afghanistan, and Carol Ruth Silver, co-founder and chairperson of the Hayward-Ghazni Sister City Committee. Ghazni, southwest of Kabul, has been a “Sister-City” to Hayward, California, since 2006. Mr. Yaqubi was also a participant in The Asia Foundation’s 2011 Hayward-Ghazni Exchanges.
