The Asia Foundation and Sri Lanka Telecom Celebrate 10 Years of “Spreading the wealth of knowledge”
Colombo, Sri Lanka, October 15, 2014 — The Asia Foundation and Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) recently renewed their decade long partnership of the “Spreading the wealth of knowledge” program. Through the partnership, SLT and the Foundation’s Books for Asia program distribute English language books to schools, universities, and other organizations with the aim of improving literacy rates in Sri Lanka.
The Foundation’s Country Representative for Sri Lanka Dinesha de Silva, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of SLT Lalith De Silva exchanged the signed agreement with a ceremony at the Sri Lanka Telecom Head office.
Lalith de Silva, Group CEO, SLT said, “it has been a privilege for the company to work together with The Asia Foundation over the years and stated that they intend on continuing to invest in the community by spreading the wealth of knowledge via related book distribution programs.”
Since the start of the program in 2003, the “Spreading the wealth of knowledge” program has distributed over one million books to various organizations across Sri Lanka. Books for Asia began distributing textbooks on business, finance, science, and social studies in Sri Lanka in 1954. Today, it is the only English-language book program of this kind serving the entire island. A number of world-class publishers contribute to the program, including Penguin USA, Wiley, Pearson Education, W.W. Norton, Guilford Press, Kumarian Press, and Sinauer Associates.
