Asia Foundation’s David M. Lampton Meets with Madame Fu Ying in Beijing
Beijing, July 25, 2016 — During a recent visit to Beijing, David M. Lampton, Chairman of the Board of The Asia Foundation, met with Madame Fu Ying, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress, near the Great Hall of the People. The discussion spanned a range of issues including the current state of the China-U.S. relationship, the challenges facing it, and the need for meaningful cooperation between the two countries in an increasingly interconnected world.
Madame Fu and Mr. Lampton have known each other for several years and have long shown a mutual interest in enhancing ties between China and the U.S. They had connected earlier this year in Washington, D.C. while Madame Fu was traveling in the U.S..
Mr. Lampton offered an overview of The Asia Foundation and its ongoing work in China. For over three decades, the Foundation has enabled Chinese partners with development programming in areas such as women’s empowerment, disaster management, and China’s global engagement. They discussed the value of the Foundation’s contribution to China in the past and the importance of its continued commitment to the future.
