Asian Views on America’s Role in Asia: Special Events in Asia

Event: Friday, June 2, 2017

Cover of Asian Views on America’s Role in Asia: The Future of the RebalanceAsian leaders are deeply concerned about America’s long-term support for the global economic order and Washington’s political will to sustain its longstanding international security commitments. President-elect Donald Trump will find a complex set of issues to address in the dynamic and divergent Asian region, including security, trade, pressing inter-Asian tensions, expectations of Asian leaders and the broader public about America’s role, as well as rising powers eager to set their own agendas.

According to a new report by The Asia Foundation, the United States must not shrink from its leadership role in the international order and must skillfully navigate a complex set of issues in Asia. Asian Views on America’s Role in Asia: The Future of the Rebalance is a set of strategic recommendations for the incoming president on foreign policy toward Asia, including concise top 10. The Asia Foundation’s signature foreign policy initiative presents insights from high-level and emerging Asian and American thought leaders in the three sub-regions of South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia. The report reflects the view that if solutions to common problems are to be found, perspectives from both sides of the Pacific need to be heard and shared.
