October 27, 2015 — Dr. Isher Judge Ahluwalia currently leads the Research and Capacity Building Program on the Challenges of Urbanisation in India and served as Chairperson of the High Powered Expert Committee on Urban Infrastructure and Services from 2008 to 2011. Dr. Ahluwalia’s research has focused on urbanization, sustainable public service delivery, industrial development, macro-economic reforms, and social sector development. During her Spring 2015 visit to Washington DC, New York City, and Boston under Foundation auspices, she met with distinguished academics and practitioners on urban issues and spoke on India’s urbanization challenges before select audiences at think tanks and major universities. Her second visit in the fall focused on urban practices on the West Coast and in Chicago.

The Asia Foundation Chang-Lin Tien Fellows Program was established to foster exchanges for leaders to meet and interact with their counterparts in Asia and the U.S. The fellowship honors the late Dr. Chang-Lin Tien, former Chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, for his many accomplishments in science, higher education, and community affairs. It was created to highlight Dr. Tien’s assuming the chairmanship of The Asia Foundation Board of Trustees in 1999.
