Golden State Warriors CFO Jennifer Cabalquinto and Actress Lana Condor Honored by The Asia Foundation in San Francisco May 29

San Francisco, April 30, 2019 — The Asia Foundation, an international development nonprofit addressing Asia’s most critical issues, is pleased to announce the honorees of their 2019 Lotus Leadership Awards in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 29 at the Four Seasons Hotel. Golden State Warriors Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Cabalquinto; Lana Condor, actress and education advocate; and the Center for Education and Development, an education nonprofit in Vietnam, will each receive a 2019 San Francisco Lotus Leadership Award. Broadcast journalist and Lotus Circle Advisor Sydnie Kohara will serve as master of ceremonies.

The Lotus Leadership Awards recognize outstanding individuals and organizations for their contributions towards women’s and girls’ empowerment in Asia. The 2019 San Francisco honorees are extraordinary for their accomplishments, breaking down barriers and for inspiring the next generation of women leaders across diverse sectors: business, sports, the arts, and education.

Lana Condor and Jennifer Cabalquinto have used their respective platforms to promote opportunities for women and girls: Condor with her breakout role in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and current role in SYFY’s Deadly Class; and Cabalquinto as CFO of one of the greatest sports franchises in the world. Vietnam’s Center for Education and Development has significantly expanded opportunities for women pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics over the past decade.

Condor was adopted from Can Tho province in Vietnam as a child. This experience fueled her passion to provide educational opportunities to girls born in poverty in Asia. She currently supports an Asia Foundation scholarship program in Can Tho, transforming the lives of young women and girls and opening doors to education and possibility. The girls’ scholarships cover tuition for secondary school, activities such as career forums, and crucial expenses, including uniforms, learning materials, and bicycles for transportation to and from school.

Jennifer Cabalquinto, CFO of the Golden State Warriors, thrives in a male-dominated field. Cabalquinto was born in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. as a young girl, and today is one of the highest-ranking Filipinas in the corporate world. A key executive behind the powerhouse basketball franchise, she runs its finance and accounting operations including the development of the $1 billion Chase Center, the first privately-financed modern sports arena. She also serves as treasurer of the Warriors Community Foundation with a focus on building thriving communities and engaging youth in the Bay Area.

Notable previous Lotus Leadership Awardees include: journalist Christiane Amanpour; Akie Abe, spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan; H.E. Rula Ghani, First Lady of Afghanistan; Pulitzer Prize winner Sheryl WuDunn; and Nobel Prize winners Muhammad Yunus and Amartya Sen.

A key dimension of The Asia Foundation’s work is gender equality and the inclusion of women in all facets of life. “Our work supports women so that they may live their lives free of violence, poverty, and inequality,” said The Asia Foundation’s Women’s Empowerment Program Director Jane Sloane. “We know how transformative investing in women can be, but we also know there’s still a long way to go towards achieving gender equality.”

The Awards are hosted annually by The Asia Foundation’s Lotus Circle, a community of philanthropists advancing women’s rights and opportunities across 18 countries in Asia. The unique funding model directly seeds and sustains innovative projects to make a real difference in the lives of women and girls across Asia.
