Scholarships for Girls Education in Cambodia

Program Year: 2020

In Cambodia, scholarships provide important pathways to enable girls to achieve both secondary and university education. The Cambodia Tertiary Scholarship Program is a project of The Asia Foundation in close partnership with KAPE. The program has enabled more than 146 female students from vulnerable families in Kampong Cham province to obtain bachelor’s degrees at Western University.

The scholarship program provides recipients with wide-ranging support to achieve their highest vocational potential, including both financial support and mentoring and networking opportunities. The program also contributed to developing a responsive Career Development Plan which included a package of English language and computer skills, soft-skill training, exposure visits, study clubs, leadership training, and networking opportunities. This support allowed scholars to engage with the private sector and civil society organizations and gain internship opportunities, grow their networks, and build their capacity for better job placement. The program helps students build key academic and life skills and prepares them to be leaders in the classroom, in their future careers, and in their families and communities. By investing in girls’ education, the program acts as a catalyst for participants to serve as positive female role models in their communities.
