The Asia Foundation Hosts Joint Speaker Series on Economic Diplomacy in Cambodia

June 24, 2022 — On June 15, 2022, The Asia Foundation, in collaboration with Cambodia’s National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (NIDIR) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), launched a joint speaker series on economic diplomacy. It is the first of three speaker events focused on facilitating an exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences among diplomats, universities, and think tanks in Cambodia and the region. The three-part speaker series is part of The Asia Foundation’s collaboration with NIDIR to support capacity building on international relations and diplomacy and establish an open public library on international relations.

The first session, “RCEP: How can Cambodia Benefit from Multilateral Trade Agreements,” was attended by over 80 young students, diplomats, lecturers, and researchers. The event featured several key guest speakers and moderators, including President of NIDIR Tean Samnang, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce Sim Sokheng, Undersecretary of State of MFAIC Prak David, CEO of Centennial Asia Advisors Manu Bhaskaran, Director of the Public Relations Department at NIDIR Dr. Phon Sokpanya, and The Asia Foundation Country Representative in Cambodia Meloney Lindberg

The Asia Foundation will host two more speaker sessions: “The Future of Economic Diplomacy for ASEAN: The Roles of the United States, China, and Japan” and “The State of American Economic Diplomacy in Asia: What Might the Biden Administration Do?”
