Applications Open for East Asia Summit Hackathon on Combatting Marine Plastic

San Francisco, October 19, 2022 — The Asia Foundation is teaming up with the ASEAN Foundation, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), and the governments of Australia, India, and Singapore to host the East Asia Summit (EAS) Hackathon on Combatting Marine Plastic. The hackathon is calling for applicants aged 18-25 from across the Asia-Pacific to take part in creating innovative digital solutions to address plastic pollution.

On December 13 in Jakarta, Indonesia, teams of talented software developers and tech enthusiasts from across the region will be invited to take part in the three-day hackathon. The objective is to empower the region’s next generation to create digital solutions to address (1) how governments and local communities can more accurately monitor marine litter in hot-spot areas and (2) how small businesses can be incentivized to minimize plastic use and recycle.
