Asia Foundation Presents “Recent Developments on the Korean Peninsula and Prospects for U.S.-Korea Relations” with Dr. Jin Park

On July 30th, The Asia Foundation, in collaboration with UC Berkeley’s Institute of East Asian Studies and Center for Korean Studies, hosted a conversation “Recent Developments on the Korean Peninsula and Prospects for U.S.-Korea Relations” with Dr. Jin Park, president of Korean-American Association and Asia Future Institute. A former member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and currently a Global Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars, Park has decades of experience covering foreign policy and the security issues in the Asia Pacific region.

After brief introductions from The Asia Foundation President David D. Arnold, and former South Korea country representative Dylan Davis, Park shared his perspectives about the array of challenges facing the region following the developments on the Korean Peninsula. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation to aid in the denuclearization of North Korea.

As a member of the board of directors of the Friends of The Asia Foundation in Korea, Park advises on Foundation’s programs in Korea. The programs aim to contribute to a peaceful resolution of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, including research and dialogue exchanges on the complex foreign policy issues facing Korea, neighboring countries, and the United States.

More broadly, U.S.- Korea relations are featured in The Asia Foundation signature foreign policy initiative, Asian Views on America’s Role in Asia project (AVARA) and its follow-up assessment of the Trump administration’s policies in Asia thus far. AVARA brings together diverse perspectives from influential Asian thought leaders on U.S. foreign policy priorities in Asia.
