Asia Foundation Report on Language Policies in Myanmar

MyanmarLanguageReportEducation and language policies are at the heart of ethnic conflicts in Myanmar, and remain a challenge to the new administration. For decades, the state has emphasized a centralized, Myanmar language only education system that many ethnic groups felt threatened their cultural identities. However, the country’s democratic transition has enabled issues of mother tongue-based education to be discussed more openly. The Asia Foundation has released a new report on the state of MTB education in contested areas of the country. Download report.
