New Study Examines Barriers to Regional Trade in South Asia

BarrierstoTradeSouth Asia has been called “the least integrated regional bloc in the world,” with intra-regional trade share in South Asia at just 4 percent – far lower than that of the European Union at 65 percent and East Asia at 24 percent, according to a new Asia Foundation report, “Mapping Barriers to Trade in South Asia.” The paper, part of the DFAT-TAF Partnership Working Paper Series, examines the prevalent barriers to regional trade in South Asia, and is authored by the Foundation’s country representative in India, Sagar Prasai.
