Kamryn Nelson
2023-2024 Luce Scholar
Kamryn Nelson was born and raised on the southside of Chicago. He is a 2022 graduate of Howard University, receiving bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and History. Kamryn is interested in the dismantlement of education inequality through public policy and volunteerism. This journey started for Kamryn as early as high school while working for his city’s Board of Education. He helped solve food insecurity at his high school and organized a march against violence in his local community. This work was expanded when Kamryn attended Howard, where he took part in many internships on Capitol Hill, became active in student government, and volunteered in his university’s local high schools by providing SAT prep and college financing advice. Currently, Kamryn is an associate producer on MSNBC’s primetime news show, The Reidout with Joy Reid. He wishes to attend graduate school to further his education in public policy and education.
