Dr. Ta-lin Hsu is the founder and chairman of H&Q Asia Pacific. Since its inception, H&Q Asia Pacific has managed 19 funds of over US$2.1 billion in committed capital. Prior to founding H&Q Asia Pacific in 1986, Dr. Hsu worked at IBM for 12 years, reaching the position of senior manager in the research division — with corporate responsibility for advanced research and development of mass storage systems and technology — before joining Hambrecht & Quist as a general partner in 1985. Dr. Hsu received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley following a M.S. in electrophysics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a B.S. in physics from National Taiwan University. Dr. Hsu was a founding member of the prestigious Technology Review Board of Taiwan, which was instrumental in the establishment of Taiwan’s technology industry. Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp., Starbucks Beijing, Ritek Corp., are some of the boards of public and private companies Dr. Hsu currently serves. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Pacific Pension Institute. Dr. Hsu is a member of the Advisory Board of the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley and is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.
