Access to Justice in Laos

Since the national constitution was adopted in Laos in 1991, a number of laws and regulations have been enacted. Enforcement and citizen awareness, however, remains low, due in part to the lack of a history of rule of law in the country. In Laos, The Asia Foundation is working together with the Lao Bar Association, the Ministry of Justice, the Law Committee of the National Assembly, and other government and community-based organizations in an effort to accelerate development of the legal sector and improve access to justice for all Lao citizens.
